Symposium at ASICON 2022 – 82nd Annual Conference of The Association of Surgeons in India

During  ASICON, 82nd Anual Conference of The Association of Surgeons of India held in Mumbai, a symposium on cost-effective hospital management was organized. 

Dr. Gurmukh Advani was invited as a luminary expert.

Dr. Advani, drawing from his extensive expertise and experience of over 30 years, addressed a diverse audience comprising over 200 doctors, CEOs, and hospital administrators.

In his enlightening talk, Dr. Gurmukh Advani delved into the intricate process of selecting suitable medical devices for hospitals, extending the discussion beyond equipment to encompass world-class infrastructure. He emphasized the critical factors that hospitals should consider when choosing medical devices, including life cycle costing and shelf life of consumables. 

Furthermore, he drew attention to the critical nature of specifications, quality standards & certifications thus advocating for rigorous testing and adherence to industry norms.

Dr. Advani provided insights into the latest advancements & technological trends in the medical device industry, elucidating how hospitals could benefit from cutting-edge innovations.

He stressed the significance of designing modern hospitals with patient-centric features, such as modular operating rooms, ICU facilities, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), Picture Archival And Communication System (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS), Hospital Information System (HIS) and integrated operating rooms to enhance patient safety, reduce infection risks and maintain comprehensive patient records—all while adhering to the highest standards.

Building strong, trusting relationships with medical device manufacturers and suppliers emerged as a key theme in Dr. Advani’s discussion. He highlighted that this collaboration is essential for successful device selection & long-term partnerships, thus ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes, and satisfaction.

Dr. Advani urged hospitals to prioritize clinical quality and workflow efficiency, recognizing that patient well-being hinges on seamless procedures and top-notch medical care, which is supported by superlative hospital infrastructure. 

Such improvements in internal processes, hospital infrastructure, patient care leads to decreased Average Length of Stay (ALOS) & increases patient delight, for the patient. For the hospital, it increases patient throughput, which leads to increased turnover, & better profitability. Thus resulting in a win-win scenario for both hospitals and their patients.
